Eroticism and the Profound
What does it mean to connect eroticism with profound experiences, sometimes described as arcane or spiritual? And here spiritual can mean whatever you may hold in your life that fills meaning. You can be atheistic and have deep meaningful connections that lie outside a defined spirituality. So don’t get hung up on the language…
There’s the concept that having conscious erotic encounters - being fully present and aware within erotic intimacy - are akin to meeting with the spark of love. In other words, making love with the love that forms us all. To state this simply, it is love flowing through sexuality. It doesn’t always have to happen within a sexual meeting, but it often does.
This is about letting love flow through the energy of eroticism - when we connect with each other sexually we open a conduit between ourselves, the energy we create together, and the immensity of love within the universe. We don’t possess this love, it flows through us and we are servant to it - we are in service as lovers.
These conscious encounters can involve many different elements - being present in body and mind, soft eye contact and breath, celebrating one’s own and the other’s body, articulating desires and feelings, or a combination of some/all of these, plus more. It can be different for each person, and different erotic traditions utilise their own techniques to facilitate access to deep love. Essentially it is the ingredients of presence, awareness and recognition that allow eroticism to express in greater depth and create access to a far deeper experience than sex without these ingredients.
To experience this is profound.
To explore this for yourself, consider the erotic adventures of Erotic Expression and Sentient Sexuality as ways to engage with eroticism and the profound. Just be aware that such an experience can never be forced and this love can never be sought as an end in itself - it exists in relationship to us and it emerges when we are ready for its presence.
