Erotic Embodiment
Contemporary society is heavily intellectualised and the body tends to be overlooked as anything but a tool - it is celebrated in sport and formal artistic movement, analysed and dissected in health, organised and brutalised in combat, and disregarded as ‘the shell we occupy’ pretty much everywhere else. I have lived each of these body states and in my experience none of them are able to satisfactorily embody eroticism. Formal dance probably comes the closest, but even that can be heavily prescribed and expressively restrictive, meaning we remain detached from our body as an erotically sensate entity.
So, how to locate eroticism within the body?
For me, the answer is to be erotically communicative in embodiment - in other words to physically locate and share my sensuality, feelings, wants, loves, dislikes, shadows, intimacy, arousal, orgasm, desires, turn-ons, turn-offs, and more within my body. Not in the mind as intellectual concepts, but in the body as entities that live and breathe.
For me, what is needed is to listen to the body to hear what it is saying, to learn and speak its language and the ways it communicates. In living an erotic life some people describe this as engaging with and expressing an orgasmic energy, which is a pretty cool way of picturing erotic embodiment and definitely something to aim for. So let’s all do this and see how the neighbours react…
The Erotic Expression offering is a really great way to explore this in our life.
